Our #matriarchmonday spotlight is one of our favorite Indigenous authors and futurist - Cherie Dimaline. Cherie is a Métis writer and activist from the Georgian Bay Métis Nation in Canada. She has written a variety of award-winning novels and other acclaimed stories and articles, including The Marrow Thieves, which explores the continued colonial exploitation of Indigenous people and the land. She has written so many other beautiful stories and her most recent book is Empire of Wild.

In an interview Cherie shared that "Being an Indigenous writer is an absolute gift. In my community storytellers are considered leaders, so it's a position with a lot of responsibility. It's a blessing because I get to spend time with so many storytellers and their stories. I get to do that globally now and represent my specific community and my specific story."

We celebrate Cherie for her imagination and her continued voice in the literary industry. Cozy up with one of her stories today!
