Our #matriarchmonday spotlight features Indigenous chef, Crystal Wahpepah from the Kickapoo Nation in Oklahoma. Crystal grew up in the Oakland, CA and learned to cook traditional foods from her grandmother. Crystal was one of the first Native American woman-owned catering businesses to be established in California and was the first Indigenous chef on the cooking show, Chopped. Crystal owns and operates Wahpepah’s Kitchen in the Bay Area and hopes to one day open a restaurant.
